Citation Database Manager
=========================
...Please note this is SHAREWARE...
!Citation is a database manager which allows the storage, searching,
sorting and formatting of citations for direct output into technical
papers. It should prove useful to anyone involved in writing papers which
require extensive lists of references.
I have always found that collating citations proves to be the most
tedious and error prone part of scientific paper writing. Furthermore
each journal dictates that its citations should be in a (generally
unique) specific format so that when one re-submits a paper to another
journal all the citations have to be re-formatted. !Citation handles
output in any format specified by the user so that once a Subset of
references has been selected from within the database, the output format
can be altered ad nauseum. Selection of citation subsets is facilitated
by author/subject/keyword searching as well as plain old manual
selection.
Bulk importing of references from any text/ASCII file is supported so
that one can collect references, say on your Psion/Pocket book or any PC
as you go along for later addition to your reference database. Support
is also provided for the direct import of MEDLARS formatted references
from computerized databases.
Data is stored in dedicated library/application directories in a manner
similar to Impression documents. It is therefore easy to build up
libraries of different references and use them in !Citation by simply
dragging them to the iconbar icon. It also makes backup of such a
valuable commodity a doddle (so no excuses).
I long used a general purpose database for my references but this proved
too limited for such specific use. I noted that packages are available
for other platforms ("Papyrus" for the PC and "Endnote" for the Mac - at
a price!) and tried to interest several software houses in providing a
similar application for Acorn machines, believing this to be a
commercially viable opportunity - but to no avail. So I eventually got
round to writing one - and here it is. I hope you find it useful.
In this program I have tried to make extensive use of the drag and drop
facilities offered by RISCOS and not available on other platforms. As
well as bulk drag'n'drop import, text can be freely dragged in and out of
various fields for editing in other applications. Also the "Export icon"
(green arrow icon, top right of main viewer) allows dragging of author
names directly into your paper and !Citation works out the appropriate
format eg. "[Dawson, 1989]", "[Radulescu et al, 1995]" or "[Smith &
Jones, 1901]".

This software is supplied "as is"; no warranty, express or implied, of
the merchantability of this software or its fitness for any particular
purpose is given. In no circumstances shall the providers of this

Having said that, the author would welcome bug reports, suggestions,
praise etc... Registration costs a measly...UK£15 or foreign note
equivalent (Endnote for the Mac or Papyrus cost far more..!) and this
entitles you to free upgrades, support etc (by Email otherwise a nominal
media charge will be levied). A two week period of grace is allowed to
evaluate this program thereafter the user should register or delete the
application.
My thanks to Longman for providing such a comprehensive and excellent
package in S-Base. Copyright of this program is held solely by the
